CLAIRE GORMLEY COLLIER 46, of Stamford, ended a courageous battle fighting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, ALS

ABOUT ALS Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease which affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. During the insidious progression of ALS, the motor neurons connecting the brain to the spinal cord and muscles die. The brain loses its ability to initiate and control muscle movement. Patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. ALS has no prejudice—it occurs worldwide, with no age, ethnic or economic boundaries. 30,000 people throughout the U.S. currently have ALS, and over 5,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. There is no cure for ALS. JOIN CLAIRE’S CLIMB On Sunday, September 27th, a 1,400 yard portion of the Westchester Triathlon route known as CLAIRE’S CLIMB will be rededicated in her honor. Please help us raise funds for the Friends of Claire foundation by sponsoring yards along CLAIRE’S CLIMB. Individuals or corporate sponsors are welcome to sponsor any number of yards, or contribute a flat amount. Title sponsorships begin at $100 per yard. Sponsorship Levels: Steel- $100 per yard Aluminum- $250 per yard Carbon- $500 per yard Titanium- $1,000 per yard In exchange for your generous contribution to this cause, your name and sponsorship level will appear on signs posted along the route, as well as on the Westchester Triathlon website. Escape to Alcatraz

Qualify for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.

Westchester Triathlon organizers have teamed up with one the most popular triathlons in the world, Escape from Alcatraz, one of the only Olympic Tris to be broadcast on network television. Top amateur triathletes must qualify for Alcatraz by competing in one of 7 qualifier races around the country, and Westchester Tri represents the Eastern Region qualifying race. We have slots to assign in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon held in June in San Francisco. Assignments are awarded to the top male and female finishers in the various age categories. Details subject to change.

Claire's Climb

Who will take the climb in 2009?

Every race has its signature. You'll never forget the Sands Steps in Alcatraz or Mama & Papa Bear in IM Lake Placid. We have our own unique signature - Claire's Climb presented by The Twyman Family. It will challenge you to the max and back during the bike course. In the 2006 race, Willem Hundersmarck and Karen Linner won $750 in prizes each with the fastest split times.
