Spectators

How to watch the event.

We thoroughly encourage spectators to attend the event as you are an integral part of the triathlon experience for the athletes. The cheering and encouragement that a group of spectators can offer, makes a huge difference in the moral of the athlete as they pass you by. Other than the finish line, spectators are encouraged to line the course through ALL the towns involved (Rye, Port Chester, Greenwich, Rye Brook and Harrison) see Course Maps for more details. Whether you're coming by to support a friend or family member, or whether you want to just be involved in some way with this community event, we want to offer these guidelines to make your day as memorable as the athletes.

The best viewing area for spectators is right in the center of Rye Town Park. You can see the athletes enter and exit the water, leave and return on their bikes and see them on the run and the finish line.

  • Spectator parking will be in the Playland Parking Lot
  • The ENTIRE Transition Area is off limits to spectators
  • Refreshments, both during and post-race, are for athletes only
  • NO DOGS are allowed in Rye Town Park during the race
  • Plan on bringing BIG signs to cheer on the athletes!
  • Make noise to encourage the athletes: cheer, clap, play music or make your own music
  • Identify with the athletes. Praise them runners individually. (eg: "Go number 327! You're doing great!") He or she will truly appreciate it
  • Musicians along the route encouraged -contact us for details!
  • Locate your cheering section on a hill or more challenging portion of the course. These are the places that the athletes will need the most encouragement
  • Keep in mind that the athletes in the back of the pack need the most encouragement, as they will be out there the longest. Be sure to cheer for them as well.
  • Keep the Positives coming in strong!

En-Route Homeowner
If you're lucky enough to own a house along the bike or run course of the Westchester Triathlon (see Course Maps) then we first want to thank you for your co-operation and patience with the interruption that the race may cause. The old saying, IF YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM, THEN JOIN 'EM really applies here to you, as you are placed in a unique position to have a strong role in our event. You can gather some friends and family outside your house to rally the athletes as they pass by. If it's a hot day, you can offer a cool down spray from your water hose - the hot athletes will savor it! For questions please contact us.

Team-in-Training
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training provides many volunteers and cheering sections during the Westchester Triathlon. Look for them again this year, wearing their distinctive purple shirts.

We can always use additional Volunteers. Click here to find out more information about supporting our event.
